Questions people ask
What is a Blue Badge?
A Blue Badge is issued to a disabled person so they can park closer to where they need to go. In Jersey it is issued under the Road Traffic (Disabled Persons) (Badges for Motor Vehicles) (Jersey) Order 1982.
I came here from gov.je. Is this the right website?
Yes. This is the online application for a Jersey Blue Badge.
How much does it cost?
£15, including a duplicate. You pay when you send the form. If the application is refused, the fee is returned.
How long does a badge last?
Three years from the day it is issued. A duplicate is valid only for the time left on the original badge.
Can I leave the form and finish it later?
Yes. Create an account first. Your answers are saved as you go. Sign in again to carry on. The application is sent only when you pay the fee.
Does my doctor issue the badge?
No. Where a medical certificate is needed, a doctor at your surgery answers the medical questions. The issuing authority decides whether to issue the badge. The doctor’s answer is not an automatic approval.
I am registered with EYECAN. Do I need a doctor?
No. If you are registered as blind with EYECAN, the application does not need a medical certificate.
I already have a badge.
You can renew it here, or ask for a duplicate if it has been lost or stolen. You will be asked for a photograph of the badge you hold now. There is no digital list of badges already issued, so that photograph is how the current badge is checked.
Do you want my NHS number?
Jersey does not use NHS numbers. Residents are asked for their Social Security number, which looks like JY 123456 A. If you do not have one yet, say so on the form. A hospital number from an appointment letter is optional.
Will you look up my driving licence or passport?
No. The application asks you for a photograph and your address. It does not search the driving-licence register or the passport records.
Can someone help me apply?
Yes. If you are applying for someone else, create a carer account. That account is yours, and each person you help has their own application. A carer account cannot be used to apply for yourself.
Is the website in French?
Yes. Choose Français at the top of any page. You can switch language and carry on. Your saved answers stay on your account.
